Biography
Founded by Rex Smallboy to represent the Native voice in Rap, War Party made music history as the first native rap group to have a music video (Feeling Reserved) air nationally on Much Music Canada. (Rap City)
Inspired by the revolutionary forces of rap and driven by the desire to utilize hip-hop as a positive means to promote change in society. The music and message of Hobbema’s War Party tells a remarkable and heroic story of hip-hop, courage, truth and determination.
With a strong reputation for ground breaking accomplishments War Party solidified their presence in rap working with the legendary Rap icon Chuck D from Public Enemy.
War Party was featured in an educational television documentary as part of First Nations studies at the Japanese University of Television. (Over 100, 000 student viewers) They later went on to perform for the United Nations Indigenous Language Conference at the World Expo in Nagoya Japan.
War Party performed as part of the historic First American’s Festival held at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC. The group’s hard hitting lyrics received coverage from MSNBC News, USA
War Party’s first album titled “The Reign” was recorded in 1999 and won the first ever Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Rap or Hip-hop Album in 2001. Music from “The Reign” has been featured in the major motion picture Dream keepers.
One of the most successful and famous Native Rap groups in Canada, War Party is exceptionally constructive with the art form encouraging youth to get inspired in life, to have a dream, to have a positive attitude and to believe in and value themselves.
War Party recording artists Rex and Cynthia Smallboy (now a duo) continue tours performing the groups well known positive and heart felt music.
Native American emcees break the chains of lethargy and oppression with focused, politically conscious rap verses. The socioeconomic realities of reservation life are brought to light over subdued melodies and angry dissonance. –www.listen.com

Dear Warparty,
Just let me say, you have given me new confidence in the future rap, the mainstream stuff down here in the USA is so generic.
Your music is very creative, educational, and empowering. MC's can learn a thing or two from you.
I am writing my Senior Capstone, here at Colorado State University on Native American Rap, seeing as so little has been written on the subject. I feel that there needs to be more exploration into the empowerment and inspiration that Native American and First Nations rap gives to its fans.
If you have any suggestions to help me with my project, I am open to suggestions.
Thanks
