Biography
Fresh from Vancouver’s New Music West and recently receiving Radio Indy’s gold artist award, Vancouver BC performing artist Lindsay May’s first full length album ‘Bronze and Blue’ is a musical journey through folk roots songs with the vocal brilliance reminiscent of old blues and jazz divas.
The twelve track album is charged with emotional songs about tried and true heartbreak… just from a different perspective. Her songs take a deeper look at relationships and personal growth, kind of like Lindsay May.
Using elements from her own life and those around her, Lindsay May’s songwriting is a process refined through years of songwriting and musical training, including being selected five years straight for the Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes songwriting workshop. A storyteller is made, not born.
At almost 6 feet tall, audiences are pleasantly warmed by her outgoing, spirited world view with the underlying deep emotional experiences of someone who is working hard in her musical career and in life. Her height allowed her to gain singing and performance experience early. She used to sneak into blues clubs to sing with the bands… they always let her on stage. Though Lindsay May loved performing, deep down she knew she was a songwriter – filling journals with poetry and primitive song ideas starting at the age of nine.
In order to record the material for ‘Bronze and Blue’, Lindsay May teamed up with an original production duo, in a Kelowna BC studio – Beyond Audio. Producers Steve Todd (Sue Medley) and Mike Ohman (Peter Mann and the Lonely) commandeered some world class players including Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Rod Stewart, John Fogerty Pat Steward (Bryan Adams, the Odds) and Julie Masi (Parachute Club) perform on the album.
Lindsay May is touring Canada throughout 2008 in support of ‘Bronze and Blue’. Check out www.lindsaymay.com for more details.
